MakerFusion started because I was tired of translating a maker business into accounting-software language.

I’m a maker, not an accountant. But running a handmade business meant keeping track of orders, inventory, supplies, production, expenses, customers, local pickups, and about fifteen other things that had very little to do with actually making anything.

I wanted one place where I could open my computer in the morning and see what I needed to know:

• What needs to ship?
• What needs to be made?
• What’s running low?
• Is someone coming to pick up an order?
• How are sales going?
• What needs my attention today?

So I started imagining the software I wished existed.

Fortunately, I’m married to Heiko, a developer who knows how to turn my endless stream of “Wouldn’t it be great if…” ideas into something that actually works.

Together, we built MakerFusion: a maker management app designed around the way real makers run their businesses—not around the way traditional business software thinks they should.

MakerFusion is still growing, just like the businesses it was built for. We’re building it one problem, one idea, and one “Oh! It should do this too!” at a time.
